Why Bleed Is Still Top-Tier in 2025
Hemorrhage (bleed) triggers an instant burst dealing 15% of the target's maximum HP, regardless of your attack power or the enemy's defense. Against high-HP bosses, a single proc can deal thousands of damage in one instant — more than most weapon arts.
Even after nerfs in Patches 1.04, 1.06, and 1.12, bleed remains one of the strongest damage strategies in the game. The key is stacking fast-hitting weapons, Arcane investment, and the White Mask / Lord of Blood's Exultation damage window that triggers on every proc.

Patch 1.12 note: Arcane-based status buildup scaling was slightly reduced in June 2024 (Shadow of the Erdtree launch). The soft cap remains around 45–55, but pushing past 60 gives even less status buildup benefit than before. 60 is the sweet spot.

The White Mask is the single most important armor piece for any bleed build. It grants +10% attack power for 20 seconds whenever blood loss occurs nearby — stacking with Lord of Blood's Exultation for a combined ~30% damage boost in your proc window.

Power Move: Dual Seppuku Setup
For players without access to Rivers of Blood or who want a different approach, the Dual Uchigatana / Nagakiba with Seppuku setup is one of the highest bleed-output options in the game.
Seppuku activates by striking yourself, instantly adding 85+ blood loss buildup to the weapon for a duration — and also self-applying a bleed proc that activates Lord of Blood's Exultation and White Mask before the fight even starts.
Setup Sequence:
- Apply Seppuku to both weapons before the boss fight
- This procs your own bleed → activates White Mask + Lord of Blood's Exultation
- Enter the boss room with both buff windows already active (~20s each)
- Power-stance both weapons into the boss for extreme bleed buildup speed

How much Arcane do I need for a bleed build?
Target 45–55 for the bleed buildup soft cap — going higher gives diminishing returns on status buildup specifically. However, 60 Arcane is popular because it also boosts the weapon AR for Arcane-scaling weapons like Rivers of Blood. Don't bother pushing past 60–65.
Is Rivers of Blood still good after the nerfs?
